Edit Photographic Images P4

below includes the various editing techniques used throughout this unit to achieve the final presented images, I have included four videos, one is the full process I went through from start to finish for an image, as well as one for blemish removal, below that is focused on simple airbrushing, and finally reveals a wider range of editing techniques I have used.

Fitness for Purpose

To achieve consistency within my final images, I opted to make similar adjustments and use the same editing techniques for all images. This allowed me to present images that would be fit for purpose. As well as this I included the brand's logo and trademark on every image, this was to assure it was clear what brand (magazine) the images were for.

The pictures  below shoes an edit for one of my final images, this includes change tones, saturations, highlights and curves, as well as simple airbrushing.

the actual image's background was not wide enough to fill the whole background of the image so i had to use the square highlighter tool found on left side tool bar and then i proceeded create a square using the tool i copied the left side of the background without including the model  and then pasted it in a new layer.

By increasing the width of the canvas us i am able to insert more of images which shows more of the product which makes the hockey stick the point of intrast

I then moved the newly pasted copy of the background to fill the space i did this by using the transform tool"CMD T" i then saw that the lighting and colouring was slightly out of place and stood out in a way i did not like or intend.the edited image at this point doesent work because the background doesn't quite work in the way and intern this actually draws you to the fault in the background not the actual product on show

by increasing the size of the canvas using the  rectangle i am able to fill the gap which will then remove any attention stealing factors from the image this will leave the product being the centre of attention.

I once again used the transform tool found by going along the top tool bar then a drop down bar appears with arrange of options  but this time I used the rotation aspect of the tool and rotated it 180 degrees this corrected the colour difference.after i rotated the background it actually blended in better this stops the view from being drawn away from the product and helps with the product standing out to the target audience.

using the rotation tools to blend the colour better i have limited the amount of distract that can take away from advertising the product.

Now with the complete background I cut out and imported another photo I once again had to transform and re-size this image to not look out of place and blend into the image I did this  because i  did't want the new picture to take anything away from the original picture.

I tried lowering and raising the opacity to find the right levels i ended up settling with 62% because it did't subtract from the new image or the orginale image. I then repeated these steps to create my group collage.adding in the new picture really helps the browning logo stand out in the picture.and because the effective use of opacity dosent take away from the original picture and product.

Lowering the opacity of the other pictures makes the main picture which is on 100% opacity stand out more this will catch the eye of my target market which will advertise the stick more.

I put each image on a different layer as it allowed me to edit things more easily I played around with each image and there layers until i found the one which the product was always on show and the photo did't just look like a mess so by putting layers in front of each other it allows you to give the photo order by deciding what pic goes in front of each other.this order of layers works effectively because it allows me to make sure that no body is blocking the stick so the product is allowed to stand out better.also it allows me to convoy the idea that the stick actually has more the one set personality and characteristics.

I then inserted catch line "delivers like clockwork" then using the transforming tool i moved it into the desired position then to give it a 3d effect i gave it a drop shadow this is it with out a drop shadow and below is it with a drop shadow.I think adding the drop shadow to the picture allows for it stand out better and catch the eye of my target audience.

the drop shadow makes the catch phrases stand out from the very complex edit and because  this is advertising the brand and as this is aimed at the target market my advertising is reaching my target market

I then added the browning logo by cutting out the logo in the letters using the using the magic wand i then transformed it using the scale aspect then stretching it across..using these tools worked effectively as it allowed be to cleanly cut out the logo leaving no remains of the original. making sure that the image is looking clean is important as people are very judgemental of first impressions and the picture is going to create the first impression some one has on the business so if it doesn't look clean and it looks sub standard the target audience are going to think the stick is substandard.

I then added an drop shadow effect to the logo i did this by selecting the blending options button which can be found at the bottom of the layers bar i did this  to make it stand out as this photoshoot is for a company so there has to be the company at the heart of the shoot.adding the drop shadow allows for the logo to stand out even though the picture has so much going on and the shadow allows the picture to blend better into the theme of the clock work orange as shadow is large part of the clockwork oranges image .

the drop shadow makes the logo stands out from the rest of this busy image this is advertising the brand and as this is aimed at the target market my advertising is reaching my target market and  early displaying the brand

I cut around each individual image to create the group look by using the magic wand tool which can be found on the left hand tool bar and then  lowering the tolerance

I lowered the tolerance from 90 to 1 because at 90 it couldn't differceate between the grey and the white so lowering it down allowed for a cleaner cut.i then went around it using the magnetic lasso to clean it up.then further more went around it with the rubber and smugger tool both found on the right side of the tool bar.

lowering the tolerance and using the smugger allowed me to cleanly cut around the image giving a professional look to the photo which will allow the viewer to have a view that the stick will be professional

this is the final product of my efforts a clean cut image no background and no gaps in the image ready to be imported into the group image this was done by draging the layer onto the group of images layer bar found on the right side of photoshop.making sure that the image is looking clean is important as people are very judgemental of first impressions and the picture is going to create the first impression some one has on the business so if it doesn't look clean and it looks sub standard the target audience are going to think the stick is substandard.

to create this group edit I took one of my original edits i had made perviously  and created an new layer by clicking the new layer button found on the bottom right side of photoshop then inserted the browning logo.previously on another edit i had cut the browning logo out taking the white from inside the letters of the logo.using these tools worked effectively as it allowed be to cleanly cut out the logo leaving no remain of the original. making sure that the image is looking clean is important as people are very judgemental of first impressions and the picture is going to create the first impression some one has on the business so if it doesn't look clean and it looks sub standard the target audience are going to think the stick is substandard.

I took the logo and using the edit button i activated the drop down bar which then allowed me to activate the transform trop down bar which then showed the  scale tool I draged the logo from the corner while holding the shift kept the shapes orginale shape and not distorting it.

not distorting the image allows the browning logo to stay the same through out the photo shoot and is recognisable through all the images which means that then target audience will know that all of these images belong to the same company.

I added a drop shadow to this logo i did this by clicking the blending options button then clicking the square box marked drop shadow  so it gives it the effect that the logo is closer then the image i did this by changing the angle of the shadow you can see the effect above with the drop shadow without below.adding the drop shadow allows for the logo to stand out even though the picture has so much going on and the shadow allows the picture to blend better into the theme of the clock work orange as shadow is large part of the clockwork oranges image .

the drop shadow makes the logo stands out from the rest of this busy image this is advertising the brand and as this is aimed at the target market my advertising is reaching my target market and  early displaying the brand

i created a new hue/saturation layer i did this by selecting layer then hue and saturation then using the highlighting square tool I highlighted the image right down the middle. This edit work very well because my models face is nearly perfectly semetricaly and this helped the edits impact.

after highlighting the photo i lowered the saturation because i had highlighted half the photo it affected only the half  I selected (the right half)the photo .this worked well has the gray brings out the wrtting on the stick.this allows the target audience to know what stick was actually used.

by lowering the saturation to grey it brings out the writing

using the text tool I added the slogan delivers like clock work then to create the three d effect and pop out look i gave it a drop shadow effect then angled the shadow to my desired look.this works well  because i angled the he shadow in such a way that it stands out it will aslo catch the eye of target audience this slogan is also remeberable so when they think about sticks this is what will come to mind.

the drop shadow makes the catch phrases stand out from the very complex edit and because  this is advertising the brand and as this is aimed at the target market my advertising is reaching my target market

I then added in the logo by dragging in my cut out file then transform it using the scale tool and stretching it across the image.i added a drop shadow effect i did this by clicking on the blending options of the layer section then ticking the drop shadow box i then angled the shadow to give this  a 3d effect. I think adding the drop shadow to the picture allows for it stand out better and catch the eye of my target audience. and the shadow allows the picture to blend better into the theme of the clock work orange as shadow is large part of the clockwork oranges  image.

the drop shadow makes the logo stands out from the rest of this busy image this is advertising the brand and as this is aimed at the target market my advertising is reaching my target market and  early displaying the brand

using the cropping tools I cropped the picture down below the school badge to give the photo more impact and because it is designed to be a web browser.it also draws the attention of the brand on the stick and makes it the point of interest. this edit works well because it gives the hptot more impact.

this image is designed to be a web banner so has to be thin but wide to go across a website.cropping the image will also keep the attention on my model and also on the stick this will advertise the stick more.

Placement of hockey stick
To achieve the highest quality image, I opted to find the highest quality hockey stick possible. After sourcing the stick of choice I then continued with a few simple editing techniques to look of professional standard.

I had to remove the background. For this step I simply selected the Magic Eraser Tool then highlighted the areas in which I wanted the background removed, resulting in an hockey stick with no background, which increased the quality of my final images. but only after i lowered the tolerance of the magic wand.I think that lowering the tolerance was an effective move concerning the whole edit as it allowed me to have a smototer cut around the image..making sure that the image is looking clean is important as people are very judgemental of first impressions and the picture is going to create the first impression some one has on the business so if it doesn't look clean and it looks sub standard the target audience are going to think the stick is substandard.

I had to import and resize the stick, which using the 'cmd T' shortcut enables me to complete very quickly. When resizing holding shift causes the form of the stick to stay the same, simply reducing the size of the stick, but not altering the shape. This process is shown above, the process of superimposition.this edit worked well because I have achieved the size I wanted with out the stick becoming distorted .I belive this edit works not only does it clearly display the product and also very clearly relate to the iconic front cover of a clock work orange but it also frames the model beautifully.

I then had to duplicate this layer to create the triangle shape after some moving around i then grouped the three layers to gather then to create the white backgroundi used magnetic lasso tool to go around my trangles then i inverted the triangle and filled it with white paint using the white paint bucket

changing the eye colour

using the pen tool found on the left side of the tool bar i traced around the eye carefully then i hit the enter button can

eye colour change

I Used the pen tool to outline the eye.

This then surround the eye with the spinning marquee.
then i Duplicated the eye.created a new layer

then i silde the colour tool to the colour of my choice orange this is to link with the clock work orange theme.

before as you can see my model had a spot on her nose and i had to erase it with out it showing so i picked the blemish remover tool from my tool box then highlighted it then my tool would create a realistic replica of nose with out the spot my taking the colour and texture from around the highlighted area

after

applying a vignette

a vignette can be used to give picture a boarder this can be used to draw the viewer to a specific point of the picture or give the picture a more artistic quality or just give the picture more impact .
open your picture in photoshop select the vignette drag the vignette onto the picture and drag to size
then click off the picture to set the vignette. I think adding the vignette benefits the edit because it gives it a border and this draws the attention to my model and the stick which is the product.

I then added a drop shadow effect i did this by clicking on the blending options of the layer section then ticking the drop shadow box i then angled the shadow to give this  a 3d effect. then using the rotation tool I rotated the browning logo around 180 degrees I rotated the logo because this is supposed to be a front cover for the browning catalogue.then i then transformed it using the scale aspect then stretching it along the edge of the page and then i moved it to the edge.I think this edit is effective because the logo is the main point of interest but it being on the left side dosent take away form the stick which is one the right side and because i had the model hold it out in font of here the scale makes it stand out because it is big.

once i had rotated and moved it I added an drop shadow effect to give it and 3d effect and to make it "pop"as you see the difference between above and below.I then added a drop shadow effect i did this by clicking on the blending options of the layer section then ticking the drop shadow box i then angled the shadow to give this  a 3d effect. I think adding the drop shadow to the picture allows for it stand out better and catch the eye of my target audience. and the shadow allows the picture to blend better into the theme of the clock work orange as shadow is large part of the clockwork oranges  image

Applying text

I created a new layer then using the text tool  I added the text delivers like clock work deciding the size and font of text to suit my target audience.using the text tool I added the slogan delivers like clock work then to create the three d effect and pop out look i gave it a drop shadow effect then angled the shadow to my desired look.this works well  because i angled the he shadow in such a way that it stands out it will also catch the eye of target audience this slogan is also rememberable so when they think about sticks this is what will come to mind.

I then chose the colour white and then added a drop shadow effect i did this by clicking on the blending options of the layer section then ticking the drop shadow box i then angled the shadow to give this  a 3d effect. I think adding the drop shadow to the picture allows for it stand out better and catch the eye of my target audience. and the shadow allows the picture to blend better into the theme of the clock work orange as shadow is large part of the clockwork oranges  image

once I added the text and drop shadow I had to move the text below the logo i did this using the transform "CMD T" then i dragged it as shown below. i did this so it wasn't blocking the stick in the photo but also so it doesn't take the attention from the actual image as a whole

I lowered the tolerance from 90 to 1 because at 90 it couldn't differceate between the grey and the white so lowering it down allowed for a cleaner cut.i then went around it using the magnetic lasso to clean it up.then further more went around it with the rubber and smugger tool both found on the right side of the tool bar. doing this left me with a clean cut image with  no background and no gaps in the image ready to be imported into the group image this was done by dragging the layer onto the group of images layer bar found on the right side of photoshop.making sure that the image is looking clean is important as people are very judgemental of first impressions and the picture is going to create the first impression some one has on the business so if it doesn't look clean and it looks sub standard the target audience are going to think the stick is substandard.

I then cut out the other photos using the same technique

tried lowering and raising the opacity to find the right levels i ended up settling with 62% because it did't subtract from the new image or the orginale image. I then repeated these steps to create my group collage.adding in the new picture really helps the browning logo stand out in the picture.and because the effective use of opacity dosent take away from the original picture and product.
like look to the image the diffrence is shown in the two picture the one below high opacity the one above low opacity

using the cropping tools I cropped the picture down below the school badge to give the photo more impact and because it is designed to be a web browser.it also draws the attention of the brand on the stick and makes it the point of interest. this edit works well because it gives the photo more impact.

my logo did't fit across the whole screen and stretching it would distort it and increasing it from the corner would take away from the actual image so using the square tool i created to squares to fill the gap .adding the squares aloud me to stretch the logo using smoke and mirrors this was effective because it did't leave a gap in the photo or take away from the actual product having the large logo catches the eyes and attention of my target audience

then using the pipet tool i clicked on the original logo and it took the exact colour information and allowed me to fill my new squares with the same colour.this allowed me to blend the new squares i easier.

isolating colour

I created a hue and saturation layer so this allowed me to change the saturation of the photo

I changed the saturation of the photo so that it was in black and white to enable me to isolate the lipstick.

Here I am isolating the lips so that it is in contrast with the background, making it stand out to the viewer straight away isolating also allows be to keep the texture of the lips .

cleaning and touching up

Removing Spots and Blemishes

This is a very simple process on photoshop. In fact installed within the programme is a 'spot remover tool'
I am simply placing my cursor over the spot or blemish, and selecting it. This then replaces the area with another section from the images that matches the skin tone, removing the imperfection completely. This editing technique was essential in reflecting the model's true beauty, and resulted in the ability to publish an image with no marks, blemishes or spots that unfortunately may not be attractive to many readers. Allowing me to keep the fitness for purpose, which is achieving images of high standards that convey beauty, fashion and success.

after

Firstly I duplicated the background layer and converted this to a smart layer. This means that I can re-adjust the filters applied to this layer if i need to later on.
To ensure I wasn’t editing the original file, i created a new layer to retouch on. This meant that if i made any mistakes I was easily able to amend them. I used a variety of tools on this layer to remove any blemishes from the skin. the tools included, Clone tool, Patch tool and Spot removal.

cropping

I did this to give the photo more impact this is done by cropping out some of the background this draws the viewer more into the major points of intrust such as the models face plus the product itself

firstly i used the box tool this allowed me to decided what size fitted my purpose best because i did't want to take away too much of my photo so once i had decided what size i wanted i selected the crop tool and sliced it down to the selected size

I cropped out some of the blank background which might have made it boring to the viewer.

adding filters to the photo

before

after

i created a new layer i then created a box that went straight down the middle of the photo then added a black and white layer above the photofilter layer which changed the image to greyscale, but did not alter the background layer. By adding all of these as individual layers, meant I will always have the option to go back and change the file at any point. I could have converted the original image to black and white but I would not have been able to easily convert it back to colour should I need to.

editting process

I created a hue and saturation layer so this allowed me to change the saturation of the photo

I changed the saturation of the photo so that it was in black and white to enable me to isolate the orange this was so it stood out more hinting towards the clockwork orange theme . i did this using the rubber tool to isolate the orange.

I had to remove the background. For this step I simply selected the 'Magic Eraser Tool', then highlighted the areas in which I wanted the background removed, resulting in the logo with no background, which increased the quality of my final images.

Furthermore, I erased parts of the logo that were placed in front of the initial image, a technique completed by most high magazines, showing the logo, however removing different parts of letters that fall in front of the model. Below shows the process of erasing the logo, using the Eraser tool.

colour isolation

this technique can be used to draw the viewer to a specific point or colour on a picture such as in my picture the viewer is automatically drawn to the Russian dolls face which is the point of interest

to get this effect you must

1open the photo in photoshop

2create a new adjustment layer

3.then select the paint brush and hold it down until you get the colour adjustment brush

4.then select the colour you want to paint and draw on the picture

applying a vignette

a vignette can be used to give picture a boarder this can be used to draw the viewer to a specific point of the picture or give the picture a more artistic quality or just give the picture more impact .

1.open your picture in photoshop

2.select a vignette or make your own

3.drag the vignette onto the picture and drag to size

4.then click off the picture

5.then click accept

ORGINALE PICTURE

using the magic wand i was able to instant alpha the background out of picture leaving me just the picture with was a lengthy and time consuming process but the product is worth the wait i also had to use the rubber to smooth the edges this allowed me to remove all of the organelle background I added black background on a layer behind this allowed me to see any spots i had missed.

adding a background

i added a new layer behind the original I then filled it using the black paint tool .

I created a a new layer and duplicated the telephone box into the new layer.this can give an ere ghost like effect

text

i used the text tool to create a box and title my picture
